Re: Got any cool sites built with Sandvox you'd like to share?

This is the site I've just re-built using Sandvox, I know it's a bit 'Plain Jane' , but the purpose is to give information to people who are used to reading text and have a slightly longer attention span than average (i.e. librarians, miniature book collectors etc).

I've been checking out the other sites shown here and I suppose the width can make it look a bit 'templatey' but I like the page of handmade paper (Outside the Lines Blue) because it suits the site (handmade miniature books). I think that's the main design issue, choosing a theme that suits the subject.

My original site was built in Front Page, I changed to a mac and eventually found Sandvox, after struggling long with Dreamweaver. Sandvox is great for someone like me, who doesn't want that steep learning curve, but still wants a nice-looking functional site to showcase their work. Any comments appreciated.

These are all great sites. Congratulations: keep it up!

I especially liked dewaldenpress.com as I have many ties to book publishing.

when I first saw the "blueprint" designs I couldn't imagine ever using them for any sites that I post - I thought they were unusable - of course I ended up using it for my personal music site...lol

It was meant to be a very simple site and I like the uniqueness it adds....

Early days but this is a new website created for training surgeons in the uk: www.mrcsrevise.com

Any feedback would be great as this is my first go.

Note: there are educational videos of human dissection  on the site so beware not for the faint-hearted.

Hi Everyone

A new site:
I am a member of a 4WD club in New Zealand, and here is the site I built using the Blueball Shadow Blue design. This site is mainly photo based, there are heaps of images not only of our members trucks, but some wonderful scenic photos of our spectacular part of New Zealand.

Some previous experience with Iweb, but seeing that it's now a goner, I searched the internet thoroughly, and all roads led to Sandvox. A very special thank you to the Sandvox team who answered my questions and help me solve minor problems!

The service from Sandvox in my opinion is fantastic, and should be a careful consideration of anyone looking for this kind of product, there are many companies who 'take the money and run', but not here! All questions are answered promptly and politely with helpful suggestions.

Please critique, your suggestions are most welcome!

Nice site and good to see a kiwi business and neighbour on here. I am a professional artist that messed around with Dreamweaver for too long. I've had my Sandvox site up for a year now and couldn't be happier - getting many compliments from my clients. David John, Arrowtown

I'm so green at this, I don't even know if I'm doing it right. In any case I would like to compliment David John on his website, but even more so his general talent. A true power of example.

Hi all,

want to see a web site in German created with Sandvox?
Here is it:

http://www.regenbogen-kindergarten-buchholz.de

I switched from iWeb to Sandvox. For sure with some problems. Two big of them are still existing. Look e.g. to this page:

http://web.me.com/th10gt/Sandvox/ReBo/w … erin-.html

The font is awfull and I wasn't able to change it (even being in contact Heather Gosney from SV support). Any hint would be great.

In addition I want to create a site (like a guest book) where visitors can leave some comments. My feeling is, that that's possible with SV
but up to now I'm so silly and didn't found a solution...

Enjoy a German webpage!

Olaf

Hi, I made a lot of updates to the first site (regenbogen...). Now containing some add-ins from Poppydog: I created a Guestbook
(called "Comment System") and a survey. Works great. Also I solved some issues with the fonts.

Have a look!

After overcoming some fear & trepidation, and through an investment of (significant) time, I have finally converted my website to SV2. I also updated and changed my design. The result is that was able to produce a cleaner and more dynamic website using Blueball's Minimal Colors. I'm thrilled with the way it looks. I have also traveled the path many have discussed from hating the work required to make the transition to loving SV2.

I want to also thank Charlie of BB for all the help he provided in my transitioning to his SV2 with his design including giving me some code to correct some things in my file. However, I must say that I am not satisfied with Kuler. I was using their Big Time Design and bought their updated version. They made a number of changes to the design which in my eyes had diminished its attractiveness. I felt they were significant enough that I requested a refund. I believe those changes should have been disclosed to those upgrading the design. I sent an email to them through their website and have heard no response. Compare this to Charlie who responded to my requests within 24 hours. It should also be noted that Blueball provides free upgrades while Kuler does not (I did not have the Minimal colors design and had to purchase it, but it was well worth the price.)

Not bad! The site flows really well. I have one problem with that theme, the stars. It could be so much better without them or having the option to have them. Really nice site though.

Thanks for the comments, I could see where the stars might raise an aesthetic issue. Couldn't argue with the price of the template though(Stars Orange)... not to mention the ease of use of the app. Every time I see my girlfriend struggle with SiteBuilder on Homestead... whew!

And then there's my site, made with a modified version of Skyline:

Re: Got any cool sites built with Sandvox you'd like to share?

I'm building a site with Sandvox right now that I think may be revolutionary. I'm writing a book, New Media for Designers + Builders, or NM4D+B for short. It should probably have about 500 pages of content, but nobody reads long books anymore, so I'd like to keep it to 150-200... but still have all the content. Here's what I'm doing:

The book is written in Apple's fabulous new iBooks Author, which means that I'll be able to link to things on the internet. So I'm including the things in the book that everyone should know, then I'm building a "book companion" site where I post how to do things if your setup is similar to mine. There's a blog for each chapter... the title page of each chapter blog is a detailed outline of the chapter. Below that will be the posts that describe the things that only some of the people may want to know. These posts include things like:

CSS Editor
Manipulating the Sidebar
Modifying Sandvox Designs
Setting Up a Second Domain
Setting Up Net Chiclets
Facebook Comments
Lining Up the Callouts
Making Friends with Google
Why Sandvox Collections Are So Clever

...etc. All of these have something directly to do with Sandvox, FWIW, and there will be a lot more. The idea is to be able to create a combination of book and companion website that would allow iWeb refugees like me that don't know code and don't have time to learn to be able to start from scratch with Sandvox and not have to figure out what there is to discover and then go discover it. Rather, the book and site are meant to take what was three months of learning curve for me and turn it into a week or two of work for someone else who knows no more than I did last summer.

One other thing... the chapter outlines each have Facebook comments attached (with links from each chapter of the book) with the idea that book readers could make public comments, just like blog comments. Kind of a virtual book club, I guess.

Here's the site... please check it out and let me know what you think:

Home: http://nm4db.com/
Why?: http://nm4db.com/why/ (the underlying theory of why things need to change... and are changing)
What? How?: http://nm4db.com/what-how/ (this is where all the blogs of extra content are right now)

I don't think it's a good idea to change the position of the menus when going to another page. Your opening page has all the menus to the left and then when navigating the menus go to the top. Website manta: Keep it simple.

Thanks for that useful information. I will check that out and put it right. It was not a deliberate design decision to put the menus where they are. I have no technical computer knowledge at all, or any idea of how to properly assemble a site, so it just sort of came out like that. - I just wanted to try Sandvox to see if I could get something online. When I get the time I will do some homework and improve things, such as the position of the menus. - At the moment, to me I am amazed how easy it was to actually get a site up and running via a host, with most of the technical stuff sorted out automatically.

Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for the opportunity for everyone to show our sites.  Here is a link to my site http://www.johnnyrobish.com, which is a humor/comedy website, which takes a satirical look at current events, politics and celebrities.  I transferred as much as I could over from iWeb and am quite happy, but would still like to make a few modifications which I don't quite have the skill set to do as of yet.

Re: Got any cool sites built with Sandvox you'd like to share?

I've done a few with Sandvox. But I'll spare you all and post just one at a time.

This one is a re-do from one I've had for quite some time now which was originally done by hand as the only HTML software around, as far as I knew, at the time I did it was HoTMetaL. I later re-did it in MicroSoft FrontPage 1.1, which I helped beta test.

In 1995, I got to beta test NetObjects Fusion, so I redid the site yet again.

And in 1998, I beta tested Macromedia's DreamWeaver and so redid it one more time.

And there it remained until I switched to a Mac in 2009 and bought my first Sandvox.

Frankly, my favorite part of the site is the (altered) picture of Albert Einstein, but the design is quite smooth for a Sandvox novice. :-)

Re: Got any cool sites built with Sandvox you'd like to share?

I take great pleasure in finding answers to questions posed by users of this forum and have learned a great deal about Sandvox in doing so.

I have put together a few musings relating to Sandvox at http://davidneale.eu/sandvox/index.html

There I pretend to offer solutions to some of the problems faced when constructing a site with Sandvox. Items include use of columns, anchor tags, popup windows, including tables (real tables, that is…), and more.

It says "Avenger," but I am just a Sandvox user who has been assigned the title of Avenger here in order to be able to delete spam messages. http://davidneale.eu/

I'm new to Sandvox and to technology. My ignorance astounds me. I just tried to post a reply, but when I add my site, I get a message that I'm not allowed to post links, though it seems that everyone else has. Maybe I need to change something on my profile? Buh.
