Images not showing on Website

Many of the images in my site show up as blue question marks once published.
I have tried copying all images into a Document then hitting Publish All but still no luck.
All images are jpegs that i have created.
I have tried publishing the site several times with varying results Some images have never shown up of the site...some always...some come and go.
Any thoughts?

Hi,

Make sure that your image's file extension is .jpg and not .jpeg. Also make sure that they are RGB or RGBA color mode and not CMYK files. Is this happening in all browsers or just specific ones like IE7, IE8, and IE9?

Thanks for the suggestion.
All images use .jpg extension and are RGB files.
Re Browser... I'm looking at the site with Safari...haven't tried any other browsers yet.

Amanda, looking through the illustrations, just two seem to be giving problems, Goldilocks and The Three Bears, and Happy Lads.

You write that all your images are jpegs, but the link for Goldilocks and The Three Bears points to a PNG, namely http://www.amandagraham.com/_Media/g3b_med.png, so you might wish to check that.

As for Happy Lads, there are other problems, for the HTML code for that page is incomplete: large parts of it seem not to have been generated, or to have been removed; even the first 62 lines of the HTML are missing, which is why the layout is all over the place.

Check your Sandvox "coding" first (the way your site looks in Sandvox itself and when published locally, using the menu Publish>Export… If it looks okay and if you know how to manage files on your server, I suggest you eliminate everything relating to the site from the server and publish it again from Sandvox.

Thanks very much for that feed back...most helpful....good to ear that only two images are not showing for you.
I'll certainly check the images these images as you suggest.

Which browser are you using?

As mentioned, I'm viewing via Safari and over half of the images throughout the site are not showing (mostly when you go into BOOKS WRITTEN and BOOKS ILLUSTRATED collections)

I'll go through steps you advise and keep my fingers crossed.

I'm using Safari 5.1 under OSX 10.7.2. I've also tried with Safari 5.1.2 under OSX 10.6.8, which gives exactly the same results, as does Safari under iOS on an iPad. Actually, given the errors I found (png file missing and incomplete HTML code) the results will be the same in any browser. Please note that I had looked only at the Illustrations Allsorts section of the site.

When testing, remember to reload your pages in your browser, so that not just the cache is being accessed.

Quuick edit: have just looked at your First Musician page. The illustration coded here has the extension .jpeg, which your host might not like (the link is to http://www.amandagraham.com/_Media/the_ … _med.jpeg); change the extension to .jpg to avoid problems. Note that many if not all of your JPEG images carry the extension jpeg: change them all to jpg.

...a couple of questions....
what part of the site do you access to change the extension from .jpeg to .jpg?

also, when you say to eliminate everything relating to the site from the server and publish it again from Sandvox...do you mean go to the host server's public-html folder via FTP and take everything out?
(is this what you mean when you say to reload the pages in my browser, so that not just the cache is being accessed?

You don't access the site to change the file extension; this should be done first on your local files, depending on the graphics app used to manage them.

Yes, you should use an FTP application, sucha as Transmit, or Cyberduck or suchlike to visit your area on your host server and to delete the site there (there will be a folder containing the various pages and media files, some of these in enclosed folders).

As for reloading, when you use a browser to visit a recently visited site, the browser will often simply not go to the trouble of getting the information across the Internet again; it will see that it already has everything saved locally in what is called its cache and will simply redisplay this content. This speeds up things, but can show old content that might have been replaced. In order to get the latest version of a page, you need to reload the page. In Safari, this is achieved either by clicking on the small almost circular arrow at the extreme right of the address bar, or by using the menu View>Reload Page, or by using the key-combination ctrl-R.

Hi Amanda,

I love your site and your books.  I too got some question marks when I looked at it.  I have no answer as web site building is very new to me and I am having very basic problems also.

FYI: I was reading your question page and found a typo, thought when you edit next time you may want to check it.

HOW DID YOU BECOME AN AUTHOR?

When I finished high school I went to teachers’ college to study primary school teaching.

While I was there, I wrote and illustrated story called Grundel Morseau for one of my writing projects. My lecturer suggested that I send it to a publisher. No one wanted to publish Grundel Morseau but I met a publisher at Era Publications called Rodney Martin. He asked me to write some more stories.  I showed him Picasso and he like :-) it enough to make it into a book. John Siow illustrated this story.

Good luck with your writing, I'm going to look for some of your books for my grandchildren.

Amanda, you mention the use of a public-html folder on your host server. Could it be that your host is GoDaddy and that this is the public_html folder? If so, please see the Sandvox Help topic Known Quirks of Specific Hosts.

Thanks Macdafydd for your tech advice yet again. Strangely the extension for the images at my end is .jpg even though it shows up as .jpeg in some places...strange. My host is gdwebhosting.

With your help (thanks so much) and some from Karelia I think it's all working now. Yay!
