I am an English teacher in Thailand. Quite often I will go to a distant university to teach and will leave work for the students to complete. My primary need for a web site is as a way for them to check answers to the work and, on occasion, to ask questions or submit work that they have completed. I also do editing of Masters and PhD papers, and would like to convenient way to deal with this. Email would (and does) work for the editing and paper submission, but the critical thing is to be able to pass information between me and the students.
I know this must be relatively simple, but I'm not sure where to start. I am well experienced in computers, but zilch in web design.
Thank you.

Thanks Joseph.
I do have a Wordpress account that I have not developed. I'll look into that.

I'd look into a Wordpress solution. This may be too much for Sandvox, especially the student submissions part. Also, with a Wordpress site you could edit from any computer online.

Hi Tony,
Working with Wordpress from Wordpress.com can lead to limitations. I would suggest you install Wordpress on a remote host, like Bluehost. Typically big hosting companies provide Wordpress installation in a one-click fashion, using a service like Simple Scripts.
To find a good Wordpress theme I suggest using http://themeforest.net/. They offer a wide variety of themes for around $35 each.
I do have a couple of blogging applications (e.g. Mars Edit for Mac) so will give that a try. I know nothing about them but got them in bundles some time ago. Right now I'm up to my armpits in alligators working with private sessions and trying to get into a couple of other independent teaching opportunities off the ground.
Thanks for the tips.

I am referring to Wordpress as a content management system (CMS). A traditional blogging formart, such as the ones you listed, will not work. I would really suggest you learn more about Wordpress! For all new sites I create, I work exclusively on Wordpress now. Sandvox WAS a great platform at one point, but it's shifted the past two years. For me, the lack of customer support to the loyal / long-term customers has resulted in my unhappy opinion towards Karelia. They have stated fixes and have not fulfilled.
Joseph,
I look more into that. I picked up a book a few months ago (Wordpress in Depth by Smith and McAllister) when I had signed up for Wordpress, but other commitments got in the way. Maybe I need to sit down and study that.
