The Help index only goes up as far as Nib. What happened to the rest...O,P.Q. R. S etc? Specifically I am looking for information on text boxes and object placement etc.

Are you talking about the online Help Index at http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/help/ and directly available from near the top of this page, or your local Help Index, which doesn't work correctly under Lion? The online Help Index is complete at the time of writing.
It says "Avenger," but I am just a Sandvox user who has been assigned the title of Avenger here in order to be able to delete spam messages. http://davidneale.eu/

There are two columns on that page, you are looking at the column on the left, if you look to the right you will see more.

That's weird. I don't think the second column was howling up for me before or else I am just nuts...:)
Thanks.

How do I change the shape of a text box?
Offline
As far as I know, you don't. The height of a text box depends on the amount of text it contains and its width is defined in the design. You can play around with its Object Placement properties in the Wrap Inspector, but I don't see that you can do too much about its size (if that's what you mean by "shape", as opposed to making it circular, triangular, or whatever, which is not possible). I understand the confusion, as a text box appears to have handles when it is selected—the small white circles in the centre of each vertical side give the impression that they can be dragged to expand the width of the box, but I have never been able to do this. Perhaps this is design-linked, too.

Yes the little circles on the sides do give that impression. Thanks.

This must be Design specific - what design are you using?
I can horizontally resize text-boxes with either drag-handles, or via inspector metrics.

Aha, 3rd party. Contact Charlie at Blueball (or maybe he'll see this now).
It works in Sandvox designs (at least those that I use).

I can't resize text boxes in either Gnarled or Sunburst, which are both designs provided with Sandvox (haven't tried any others).
Perhaps we're talking cross-purposes: by Text Box, I understand the Text Box object and not simply a box of text. The latter can be resized by selecting it; note that the handles on such a box are small squares and not small circles.

Hmmm, sounds like more clarity is needed in the question ;-)

Sounds like a Text box "object" to me :-)
What is a "box of text" if it's not an object? Got an example with non-functional handles?

Open any Sandvox document and you have the option to use the menu item Insert>Text Box or the toolbar icon Objects>Text Box. Note the usage of the term Text Box in both cases. Both these actions insert a special sort of object into the page, the width of which cannot be changed.
Insert a Block Quote, which is a box of text, and place some text in it. Now select it: its width can be changed.
Note how these two different objects are highlighted differently when selected: the Text Box includes small cirular "pseudo-handles" that can't be moved, whereas the Block Quote includes small square handles, that can be moved.
Similarly, Titles & Summaries Indexes, which can also be displayed as boxes of text, can be resized.
There are other examples of resizable boxes of texts in Sandvox, but, strangely, the Text Box objects themselves seem not to be resizable.

That's pretty clear, i think.

I'm presuming pputnam is talking about a "text box" not a "block quote".
Nevertheless, they are BOTH resizeable for me. BOTH have square handles for drag sizing, and BOTH have width controls in the inspector. BOTH work fine in the 2 designs you mentioned.
I wonder what gives? Sandvox version? I'm using 2.2.6.

I don't question "text box", that is clear to me. You're talking about a Text box "object" right? But macdafydd introduced a "box of text" as something different than a "text box" object, so I questioned the clarity.
"Shape" however, isn't clear. As macdafydd said, you can't do anything about the "shape", that's always rectangular. The "width" however, is changeable (or should be)

I'm using Sandvox 2.5.5b5 under MacOS X 10.7.3.
Note that if a Text Box object is given the Object Placement property "Inline (moves with text)" in the Wrap Inspector, then it can be resized. The Text Box will first be selected with a simple blue rectangle; click outside this rectangle te deselect and then click again in the Text Box; this produces a new blue selection rectangle, this time with square handles that can be used to expand or contract the box.
Here's a Text Box object, with Placement property Callout; note the round handles on the selection box: it can't be resized

Here's the same Text Box object, with Placement property changed to Inline; note the square handles on the (now blue) selection box: it can be resized

"Callout" has not been mentioned before, another lack of clarity. Since they are already limited to 200 or so pixels, it was likely a development choice to maximize the text to fit the parent element width.
It could be made to re-size narrower within the bounds of a callout, but that's up to Karelia (or CSS code injection).
