is is possible to have a non-active menu entry?
I need a menu entry that's actually a collection, with a drop-down menu, be non active, so that only it's doughter pages will be accessible. is that possible?
i so, how?

I can't quite imagine what you're talking about, but you could try turning off "include in site menu" for the parent page in the page inspector.
