Home link not working properly

I have created a webpage and exported it to a local directory to test it before publishing it online.  I have multiple menu pages which all seem to be working correctly.  However, when I wish to go back to the home page (index.html) and click the link on the menu bar, it goes to the directory rather than the home page.  I read through the forum posts here and found a few similar but not identical problems, but checking the "include index filename" didn't fix it and it is listed in the menu and does seem to be an active link. 

I would appreciate suggestions before I go live in the next few weeks.

It sounds like you've already read the section in the docs about issues when opening an exported site in Finder, I would perhaps try publishing to your computer to test it out?
