Karelia Announces Sandvox 1.5.3 and "Santavox" Holiday Savings

ALAMEDA, CA, USA, December 10, 2008: Karelia Software has released version 1.5.3 of Sandvox (R), its award-winning website creation software for Mac OS X, and is offering holiday savings on both the Regular and Pro Editions of Sandvox.

Version 1.5.3 is a maintenance release that includes important updates and fixes, including including better support for animated GIF images and loading of third-party plugins. This new version is compatible with the recently released version (1.5) of the Sandvox Developers' Kit. Karelia announces Software Developers' Kit for Sandvox 1.5

ALAMEDA, CA, USA, November 19, 2008: Karelia Software has released a Software Developers' Kit (SDK) for creating plugins for Sandvox version 1.5 and up.

The Sandvox SDK allows Cocoa developers to create new custom pages, pagelets, and collection index data types. By creating custom-built plugins, Sandvox can be extended far beyond the core of its own built-in eleven page types and nineteen pagelet types. For example, a developer might create a new pagelet type to display auction listings or local weather reports, or a new page type to display content from a new online video service.

"I am very excited about the public release of the Sandvox SDK as it is sure to make an already great application even better. I found the SDK to be very well documented and within just a few hours I was able to create a new page style," said Gary Byrd of SandvoxWebDesigns.com, who has been beta-testing the SDK.

The Sandvox SDK is a set of documentation, full source code to almost all of the built-in plugins from Sandvox (with a BSD-style license to encourage code re-use), and an Xcode template that makes it easy to get up and running, creating new plugins. Using Cocoa Bindings it is even possible to create many plugins without a single line of source code. Of course, many developers will want to take full advantage of Cocoa to make even richer plugins, including handling drag and drop of files and URLs, custom templates, and new inspector views.

"Since we previewed Sandvox last year, we've been overwhelmed with the demand that the Mac community has demonstrated for an easy, Mac-like way of building and publishing websites," said Dan Wood, co-creator with Terrence Talbot of Sandvox. "I think Mac users will be pleased with our solution for easily building websites, weblogs, and online photo albums."

Sandvox is weblog- and podcast-ready. Any collection of pages can be organized as a weblog, with automatic RSS generation. Uploaded media, such as MP3 files and QuickTime movies, become an iTunes-compatible podcast without any additional effort. Similarly, uploaded photos are compatible with iPhoto's "Photocast" element.

Sandvox also sports a helpful setup assistant for hassle-free publishing. Websites can be placed on the user's local machine and uploaded to remote hosts via FTP, SFTP, and WebDAV, including .Mac.

The Pro version of Sandvox additionally provides for creation of Raw HTML content as pages or pagelets allowing advanced users to integrate additional elements and support server-side scripting.

Sandvox has a highly pluggable architecture.
