The Spotlight database is corrupted

In some rare cases, Spotlight's database on your computer can become corrupted. This corruption is not caused by Sandvox, but Sandvox is affected by it. It makes opening and saving Sandvox documents very slow.

To confirm this is the case:

  1. Launch the Console application (found in the "Applications → Utilities" directory).
  2. Towards the bottom of the log you should have something like this:
Can't checkin with server named com.apple.metadata.mdserver, error 0x10000004

If so, Spotlight does have an issue and you need to repair it.

To rebuild the Spotlight database:

  1. Open the System Preferences.
  2. Go to the Spotlight pane and click the "Privacy" tab.
  3. Drag the disk which your Sandvox documents are kept on into the table. Then remove it again.
  4. Restart your computer. Spotlight should now rebuild its database and be unusable for the next few hours.
